Brian Winka CSFM

Brian Winka, CSFM is an Agronomist and became a Certified Sports Field Manager through STMA in 2008.   He attained a Bachelors of Science degree in Agronomy from Missouri State University. Brian has a long history in the sports turf industry with specialist knowledge and significant practical experience of the maintenance and management of fine turf and sports turf surfaces. He draws on over 20 years of hands-on experience.

Brian pioneered the Bluemuda concept and continues to advance the use of warm and cool season grasses being grown together year round calling the process Zero Transition Turf.  The process may be an answer for you if you manage athletic fields in the transition zone.

Brian has developed comprehensive agronomic plans for the facilities which include IPM practices, a fertility program based upon soil/tissue test as well as other cultural and physical management practices.  These practices include aerification, selection of the proper landscape plants & turfgrass cultivars, over-seeding, topdressing, modifying irrigation as needed, and proper mowing heights. 

Brian’s background includes being in turf & grounds management for almost 20 years. He has worked in Golf, Sports Turf Management and in landscaping over his career.   He is a regular speaker at various green industry conferences.
